Exploring the history of bad security ‘best practices’

CISOs are tasked with securing a spiraling business whirlwind that changes direction at any moment. Meanwhile, the overarching business strategy rarely takes security into consideration. Business leaders can’t recommend a security risk posture or operational model, nor can they articulate what they want from their CISOs. CISOs, on the other hand, struggle to articulate security threats and risks in business terms and align the security practice with the overarching business strategy.

Much of what guides our practices today is based on subjective opinions and recommendations rather than proven standards. Unlike the finance domain , practices based on the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), there are no “GASP” rules for security.

CISOs know their efforts are heavily scrutinized, and ultimately, they pay the price for things not necessarily under their control. To that end, many take the approach of checking compliance boxes and following “Best Practice,” while this approach may provide a blanket to cover one’s backside, it is ineffective practice.

In this session, Yaron Levi, 2x CISO, a Cloud Security Research Fellow, and an advisor to several VCs and security start-ups, will challenge conventional thinking and the notion of “following best practices” and will share his vision about approaches that reimagine how we practice our craft and help our organizations properly manage risk.

Tune In Emotional intelligence has proven to be one of the most critical habits for personal and professional success and happiness. It is a daily dance with yourself to manage your emotions and engage with others. The most effective way to enhance your EQ is to engage in regular habits that strengthen the communication between the rational mind and the emotional mind. However, with only 15% of people actually having higher levels of emotional intelligence, most are not tuned in to themselves and need to turn up the volume. Part keynote, part dance party, this presentation entertains and empowers you to understand your emotional intelligence and how it impacts them daily. Merging his experience in studying emotional intelligence with his two decades of being a national touring DJ, Rich brings an experience like no other to your event. Combining live DJing and powerful takeaways, your audience will be dancing and singing while raising their own emotional intelligence.
